opensfs

OpenSFS stands for Open Source Scalable Filesystem Software.

The intention of opensfs is to provide a collaborative environment for the discussion and sharing of open parallel or distributed filesystems and their associated tools.

Filesystems to be discussed include but are not limited to the following: pvfs1/2, lustre, gfs1/2, pnfs, openafs

Topics to present and discuss include:

  • common frameworks to deploy various filesystems
  • average file size stored on your filesystem
  • failover capabilities
  • what behavior occurs when filesystem reaches capacity
  • configurations
  • server side issues, such as meta-data contention
  • client side injection
  • security considerations
  • storage growing and shrinking methods
  • commercial support and experiences

Come share your experiences in using opensfs at your site!

old

  • goal: talk about open type filesystems

I haven't had many cycles lately to think about opensfs.org. A
version of lustre that had/used more in-kernel features but was lower
performance would be interesting. The main issue I see is that CFS can
get a bit squirrelly from time to time (i.e. will they support every
kernel.org kernel or just a few selected kernels).

If opensfs.org was set up it would be a good place to push all the
open parallel file system development.

The intention for opensfs.org was to use it to host any open source
parallel file system projects (not just lustre) and any associated
tools. We could also provide pointers to other tools like the new LLNL
lustre tools. I don't want to host opensfs.org at the labs so we'd need
to find some other hosts before we could get things going.
